40oS Atlantic Ocean

Two UK GEOTRACES cruises (D357 and JC068) aim to understand micronutrient inputs from the atmosphere, river runoff, slope margin sediments and the mid-ocean ridge to the 40oS Atlantic Ocean. This Atlantic transect lies across one of the high bioactive regions of the world ocean. However, micronutrient inputs to this region are not well studied. We sampled all the major Atlantic water masses along this transect to study the distribution of key micronutrients in different water masses, which will extend our understanding of marine productivity and micronutrient cycles in the oceans.
